MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders former assistant PRO Martin ‘Internash’ Dlamini’s joy of seeing his club romp to a 5-2 victory over Red Lions was cut short on Sunday.

Dlamini was involved in a brawl soon after the game with a former manager of the club whose name has been deliberately withheld until he is officially charged. This, after the lawyer was attacked by the former manager of the club who is alleged to have brandished a weapon after a brief verbal showdown between the two.

Dlamini said he believed that his only sin was to be seen chatting with some of the members of the current management committee (MC). However, the lawyer claims that he survived the attack from the former official by using his martial art skills for self-defence before he unleashed blows and kicks to the instigator. “Just after the game, while chatting with some of the Highlanders supporters, the former official alighted from a car and came straight to me with a wheel-spanner. I was able to avoid him from hitting me with the wheel-spanner and I easily over- powered him,” Dlamini said.

He said he loved Highlanders and no one would stop him from watching the team.  He said his interest was to see the team winning not to fight those in charge. He said there was tension at the stadium as some of the fans were only talking negatively about the team while they claim they love it. “I think the issue was that I did talk to the current MC and gave them words of encouragement. I also took time and had a chat with some of the former officials at the club who were also there,” Dlamini said.

The Manzini-based lawyer, who is also an instructor in aerobics, said he was happy with the team’s results but not the performance. He said there was a still a lot of work that needed to be done to the team. He said he was happy that the Managing Director Bheki ‘Rubber’ Simelane brought back the team from the First Division Legaue.

He said Highlanders were a big team and Simrelane needed to work with all stakeholders for success.
He encouraged him to be open to some ideas from other people especially those who had been directors of the team before. Highlanders beat Red Lions 5-2 in the one sided MTN Premier League match at Mhlume Stadium. He said he was yet to decide whether to press charges or not.
