LOBAMBA – As local football gradually slides to professionalism, sooner or later teams will be required to have highly trained doctors who meet certain standards as laid out by the world soccer governing body, FIFA.

Football Association (FA) executive member and Hhohho Regional Football Association’s (HRFA) Chairman Comfort Shongwe announced this during the FIFA Sports Medicine Course for Premier League of Swaziland team doctors on Sunday afternoon at the FA Technical Centre.
“We’ve got to move to professionalism because t

his career has been undermined for a long time in the country. It is time we step up the gear to earn respect from all stakeholders in the game and that starts with us getting the right education for the job as per FIFA standards, which takes us to the policy that’ll be in place soon,” Shongwe told the attendees.

Licensing

He encouraged the doctors to work as a team and to leave a mark, hence the policy was crucial because just as the coaches’ licensing, not everyone will sit on the bench and pose as team doctor but certified people only.
“Even for this course, there’ll be certificates from the NFAS while we will soon request FIFA to facilitate a big seminar for them to also get the accreditation required by the policy,” Shongwe explained.
He then appealed for cooperation from the PLS teams to send their doctors when the courses are held as very soon, only certified medical personnel will be allowed on the bench.
