MBABANE – Over 60 local junior cyclists are expected to attend the clinics to be conducted by the World Cycling Centre Africa Director, Jeanne-Pierre van Zyl.

The young cyclists will get to learn from the best just before the MTN Khemani 2014 race to be held on Sunday in Mankayane.
Van Zyl will lead a team of top cyclists that will run the clinics at the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) Technical Centre, Lobamba.

The clinics will be held on Friday. MTN Swaziland Brand and Sponsorship Manager Fisiwe Vilane said young cyclists have been invited to come and learn more about the sport and how they can become top riders.

“There will be an hour session on skills development which includes cornering, climbing and pedalling techniques as well as gear selection and cadence for the youngsters. The MTN Qhubeka feeder team riders will then speak about their experiences and future dreams,” Vilane said.

The junior cyclists have been chosen from cycling clubs around Swaziland, through the Cycling Association of Swaziland. About 60 of them are expected to attend the training, and it is expected that they will all be attending the race on Sunday.

The MTN Khemani race is sponsored by MTN, Swaziland Royal Insurance Corporation (SRIC), Sun International, Times of Swaziland, Swaziland Meat industries, Leites Toyota and Logico, among others.

Vilane said there will be a club ride on Saturday as well as visits by all visiting cyclists to NCPs around Mankayane that are being supported through the proceeds of this race.
Alongside the MTN Qhubeka feeder team, the race is expected to be attended by other top teams from Mozambique, South Africa and Botswana.

Team Abantu, who won the 2014 Cape Argus race, will also attend the race.
Other teams to be represented during the race include the Bonita Cycling team,  Jwaneng Cycling Club, Lowveld Chaingang and club de Mozambique. Vilane said more established teams will take part in the 100km race.
