LET’S STOP BEING PESSIMISTIC

On Monday the managing director officially unveiled the new National Supporters Committee and it is important to state that it is not a fans’ committee but a supporters committee and I would like to appeal to all of us in the family to welcome and support them as they carry out their duties.

This being a big family I know that to some they might not be their ideal candidates, that is acceptable and it shows that we are all thinkers. Now that we have the committee, it is immaterial whether you wanted them or not but what matters now is to give them our support at all times. By nature I am an optimist but I cannot pretend everyone in the family is like me so let me address all those who are hoping for the worst for this committee.

PESSIMISTS

For the benefit of all of us, these are people who always think things will never workout, to them whatever you do will fail and unfortunately for us we have such members in the family. Now, life is about making a series of decisions and every second one makes a decision, some are bad and some are good. All decisions made have consequences; if you make a bad decision you will reap the consequences, likewise if you make a good decision you reap good fruits. One thing is for sure though, we cannot be afraid of making decisions just because we are not sure how things will turn out.
It is for that reason  that we need to renew our minds for this. This pessimistic thinking will take us nowhere. Instead of having one hundred excuses why they will  not deliver, why not try to find one hundred reasons why they will deliver? That is what I call First World thinking. Not only do we have pessimists but we also have those who thought they deserve to lead our supporters or they have better candidates than the announced committee. I will repeat what I said in my first article, we cannot all be in decision-making positions at the same time. Those who are in such positions have to make decisions, prudent ones, and then the rest of us should embrace and own up to those decisions. Everyone has their shortcomings, the national supporters committee is no exception. The good thing is that they do have their strengths and that is what we need to focus and help them on.

For those who are not aware of the national supporters committee here they are:

In football we do not only have fun but it is where we create relationships and the committee needs to unite us as a family so that we can carry each other’s burdens even outside football. When you look at Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates they have vibrant branches in South Africa and that is why they attract sponsors because when it comes to sponsors the tit for tat principle applies. This means the committee has a duty to revive the branches and form branches where there isn’t one. All chairpersons from all existing branches should help the committee mobilise and encourage every member to be active.When there is a branch meeting do attend and also make it a point that you attend national supporters meetings as well. Be a vibrant supporter. This club is rich because it has you, as long as you can be an active member.
This team can go places if it has its supporters. We can buy the best players, I know one would say we need to scout for players not buy them, but scouting needs resources and those resources are with us where we are.

MERCHANDISE

I do not know how many of us in the family have Chiefs, Pirates,  Sundowns, Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool, R.Madrid and Barcelona replicas but we do not have our own Mbabane Highlanders replica or anything that  bears the name of the club. Those teams use part of that money to buy the Erasmus, Tshabalalas, Suarez, Falcaos, and CR7s of this world yet here at home we struggle to buy the best. Unfortunately for us Khoza, Motaung and the rest are not insulted when their teams lose at home yet you financially support their teams but when Highlanders lose we are called all sorts of names. It is disgusting to be insulted by someone wearing a foreign team gear claiming to support Highlanders. The marketing team is working on the team’s merchandise and I believe all our supporters will buy everything available in the market.

TEAM NEWS

I know everyone is eager to know what is happening in the team in terms of new signings but I am not going to say anything yet... just watch the space. May the Heavens smile upon you.
