MBABANE – The Namibian national team has announced a strong squad to face Sihlangu in the international friendly to be played on September 10 at Sam Nujoma Stadium, Windhoek.

The squad announced yesterday by the ‘Desert Warriors’ head coach Ricardo Mannetti includes seven players plying their trade in the South African Absa Premiership. These are namely, Max Mbaeva, Chris Katjiukua and Deon Hotto (Golden Arrows), Willem Mwedihanga (AmaZulu), Rudolf Bester (Free State Stars and former Orlando Pirates), Ronald Ketjijere (University of Pretoria and Henrico Botes (Bidvest Wits).

Another highly rated player in the squad is Lazarus Kaimbi who is playing for Bangkok Class, in Thailand.
According to the Namibian Football Association (NFA) website the squad announced is new. The coach, Mannetti, unveiled a list of 23 players, made up mostly of players who formed part of the annual training camp in Ghana a few weeks ago as well as some experienced players based in South Africa and Thailand.

“We are in a difficult situation at the moment as the local league is yet to kick-off and we then only have the option of looking at the players who went to Ghana and played about five games as their match fitness is up to scratch. We also had to include some active players from South Africa to balance up the team. I don’t want to work on players’ fitness now, rather on tactics because of the time,” the coach said during a press conference held at the NFA offices.

The players who play in the Namibian league started training at Sam Nujoma Stadium yesterday evening in preparation for the international friendly game. The team will then be joined by Thailand –based Kaimbi who also has been seeing action for his club Bangkok Glass while the rest of the foreign legion will join the team on Saturday or Sunday.
Da costa Angula, who is enjoying a great start to his Free State Stars career in South Africa, is missing from the squad due to an injury he picked up in league action recently.
