PIGG’S PEAK – Black Swallows narrowly beat Khanjana Rovers by 1-0 to win the Pigg’s Peak Under-13 tournament.

The hosts did not disappoint on home soil, outshining the rest of the 15 teams at the dusty Malandalahle Sports Ground outside the small town yesterday. Best player Siwakhile Shongwe ensured his team had the last laugh with a ground shot outside the box towards the end of the 30-minute match.

Winning coach Linda Chissano said the team took advantage of playing in front of the home supporters.
“In the last edition we finished in the quarter-finals. The experience has come in handy as we’re used to the venue,” he said.

The champions walked away with a brand new soccer jersey and gigantic trophy on top of the ticket to the national championships at Somhlolo National Stadium on November 8. Each of the players got artistic trophies apiece. The runners-up from Ndzingeni got similar prizes but for the soccer jersey. They also qualify for the national championships.

This year’s edition was launched in Matata in Big Bend over two months ago. Other places already visited are Ka-Langa, Siteki, Buhleni and Manzini.
