MBABANE – Shining junior golfer Gift Zulu has moved up two places in the latest South Africa’s Mpumalanga Province Order of Merit.

Rankings released by the Mpumalanga Golf Union about a fortnight ago, saw the 16-year-old occupying the third spot with an average of 76.40 strokes.

The youngster, with an impressive handicap one, was fifth in the previous month.
“I have to keep on working hard. I’m targeting to be at the summit of the standings by the end of the season,” Zulu said.

Fast improving youngster Banele Mavuso, on the other hand, has maintained his sixth place on the charts with a strokes average of 77.20.
The pair, who further left a mark in local amateur championships, is registered with the Mpumalanga Golf Union and features in countless domestic and national tournaments in the neighbouring country.

On January 19 this year, Zulu finished second in the Mpumalanga Junior Open with rounds of 77 and 70 on three-over-par 147. Mavuso, who was named Mpumalanga B Division 2013 Player of the Year, was third on eight-over-par 152.
The golfers’ next stop is expected to be at the Witbank Juniors Open on September 7.
