MBABANE – The Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Vision 2022 has excited the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Parliament portfolio committee.

The elite football mother body got a rare opportunity to present a summary of the initiative that geared towards the professionalisation of football in the country.
PLS Chairman Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze made the presentation before the committee chaired by Nhlambeni MP Frans Dlamini yesterday.

Dlamini said the committee was very excited at the vision even though it was yet to be discussed in details by the ministry.
“The PLS chairman made a brilliant introduction of the Vision 2022 which we felt has the potential of turning our football professional. The idea of having our players gaining full-time employment in football cannot be ignored and though the presentation was nothing but the introduction of the whole concept, we believe it can change the face of the sport in the country,” Dlamini said.

He then appealed to all stakeholders in football to render their support to the initiative by the PLS.
“The vision will turn sponsors into partners if everyone supports it. Private companies will now see the value for their support,” he said.
Director of Sports Sipho Magagula said while he was not in Parliament on the day, he was briefed about the PLS presentation on the Vision 2022.

“It is a subject that is still to be deliberated further, but yes I have been told about the PLS presentation in Parliament,” Magagula said.
PLS Chairman Victor Gamedze confirmed the matter on Wednesday during the association’s AGM.

“Government is excited at the Vision 2022. They think it is a brilliant idea which we should all embrace. We believe it is here to uplift mostly the small teams,” Game-dze said.
