EZULWINI – It is raining money for teams in this year’s MTN Premier League. A renewed sponsorship for the new season saw the total package shooting up to E3 146 000.

Champions stand a chance to pocket a whopping E600 000 if they win the league. A team that will be on top of the log when the first round ends will pocket E250 000 in prize money.

This means if the league and first round are won by one team, they will pocket E850 000. MTN Swaziland CEO Ambrose Dlamini made the announcement in front of excited guests, officials, and supporters during a launch at MTN Headquarters in Ezulwini yesterday.
“The total sponsorship is E3.146m. E1.7 million will be in the form of prize money. As per the norm we will have first round winners towards the end of the 2014,” he said.

The outstanding player will become E15 000 richer, an increase of E4 000 as compared to the previous campaign. Runners-up will now become E270 000 richer. The figures show a notable increase of E50 000. A majority of the individual awards has also been reviewed. Another notable increment was in the National First Division. Winners will now be furnished with E80 000 after pocketing E60 000 for several years.
The second placed side would get half the amount. The total package is E300 000.

Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Chairman Victor Gamedze applauded the giant mobile communications company for staying on board, highlighting that his office would ensure the sponsors get value for their money.
“MTN has become our life partners. Local football would be a disaster without MTN,” he said.

Also making an address during the launch was National Football Association of Swaziland Chief Executive Officer Frederick Mngomezulu who challenged the teams to preserve and protect the sponsorship. Also present during the launch were PLS executive members, Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula and Mduduzi ‘Tsotsi’ Mabila. The three-year partnership with the PLS had expired and was renewed for one more season.
