MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders new signee in South African midfielder Vusi Madinane has been given the jersey number 10 as he was officially unveiled yesterday. The unveiling of the former Malanti Chiefs player took place at the team’s Managing Director Bheki ‘Rubber’ Simelane’s BPL Communications company’s conference room at Sidvwashini during lunch time. This is after he was cleared for E70 000.

“For me the jersey 10 doesn’t mean much but just a number so I don’t feel under any pressure as I will continue playing my football and certainly improve from what people know of me. I’ve only changed teams but I’m still the same player. the only difference is I can now say Gwaza Nkunzi,” he said.

The player, who was unveiled by Simelane in the presence of new Italian coach Romerio Mariani, said his wish at Highlanders, like all his teammates, is to win trophies.
“The most important one is the league championship as that one sticks with you even after you have long retired from the game. I want that league medal so badly and I hope me and my new teammates can achieve it,” he said.
He said since the team’s coach was also new, it was up to them as players to work with him and they will succeed in their endeavours. He then thanked his former team, Malanti Chiefs, for giving the opportunity to play football in the country for the past six seasons.

“Everyone at  Malanti was great to me, be it the players, director and supporters, they were all supportive in my six-year spell there and I believe they will all free their hearts over this Highlanders move,” he said.
Meanwhile, Romerio welcomed the midfield genius saying from only one training session he had with him the previous day, he saw a brilliant player with skills, vision and technique and was more than excited to have him.
“I only saw him yesterday (Thursday) at training and was very impressed and know he’ll be of such value in my team. He’s joining a team with already a number of skilful players like him and soon ‘Papi’, who is yet another talented player, will be unveiled,” he said.

Romerio said he believed in his team as he can see the winning mentality in them which is all about his philosophy as a coach.
He said the players always show him great zeal and confidence and more than anything, he liked the fact that they were united and even new players were already at home.
