MBABANE – Sprinter Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa is suffering from a shin injury ahead of his participation in the Commonwealth Games.
The local record holder in 200m and 100m is expected to compete in 100m on Sunday.

He sustained the injury during a training session in Germany. Matsenjwa is expected to join the rest of the team in Glasgow on Friday as he is currently in Frankfurt, Germany.  The shin injury is caused by changing the surface you are used to training on. It is sometimes called an inflammatory condition. It is prevalent in sports like athletic sprints, tennis, squash and basketball.

“I guess I will be fine soon as I’m trying to treat it and get some massages as well. I was able to do light training in the morning. I’m confident that by Sunday I will be ready to compete. I will be flying from Germany to Glasgow on Friday,” Matsenjwa said. He will miss the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony to be held today, starting at 10pm.

The team of 14 athletes left the country for Glasgow on Saturday and they are expected back home on August 5 as the games end on August 3.
Other athletes who will be competing in the games are sprinters Phumlile Ndzinisa who will compete in 200m and 400m and Mlandvo Shongwe who will run in 100m and 200m.
