MBABANE – The National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) has renewed its E500 000 worth of sponsorship from sportswear giants Adidas.

It will run for two years. The NFAS delegates were informed during the football mother body’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), which was held at the Sibane Hotel on Sunday by the NFAS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu.

However, Mngomezulu did not delve into the financial details of the sponsorship when informing the General Assembly of the squad’s sponsorship. Independent investigations by this newspaper, however, revealed that the sponsorship is worth about US$45 000 (about E500 000).
This means Sihlangu and some of the other national football squads will be appearing in the Adidas strip until 2016, following the deal.

Interviewed yesterday, Mngomezulu disclosed that local teams also stand to benefit from the technical sponsorship through the Confederation of African Football Associations (CAF). “However, interested teams need to register through the Football Association and then we will submit their requests to CAF.

The benefit from Adidas is not only limited to the national team but all teams in the country, through the Football Association, can purchase Adidas equipment at special prices. Orders can be made at the end of August and March of each year to be able to get personalised material,” he said. He, however, disclosed that the biggest challenge to be faced by the local sides is that each club will be required to order at least 100 units of each product.

Mngomezulu disclosed that because of the shortage of funds, the association is then forced to share the senior squad’s sponsorship with the rest of the other football squads.

“That is why even our women national team, Under 20s and any other squad will be kitted by Adidas. For instance, if Adidas gives us six sets of playing kits it follows that Sihlangu then has to share with the other national squads like the women national team and the junior squads as well,” he said.

Why is it that we are not sold any of the new kit that the National team has. This is embarrassing for the Nation as a whole...
Please some thing should be done about this.
