MANZINI – After being rated one of the favourites to win the Swazi Telecom E7000 Pool Teams Knockout tournament, Stairs got more than they had bargained for as they were knocked out yesterday.

Stairs who finished as runners-up in the Swazi Telecom Pool League after failing to defend it were in the same group with Malkerns town rivals Way Inn and Ludzeludze. However, against all odds they lost all two matches which saw them crash out.

Way Inn beat them 13-6, avenging their league losses as Stairs beat them twice. Next to inflict a loss on them was Ludzeludze who were led by the country’s number one Flag Nxumalo whose side won 13-7. That was the biggest upset of the tournament otherwise in the other group favourites and league champions Jay Zee had it easy against Macembe who they beat 13-3 and  before Bhunya put the last nail on Macembe’s coffin with a 13-11 win.
Jay Zee and Bhunya did not play against the other as it was already obvious that Macembe was out after losing two games. Meanwhile, Jay Zee will now meet Ludzeludze while Way Inn take on Bhunya in the semis billed for next Saturday at Macembe in Malkerns.
The final will also play on the same day and the champions stand to take home E2000 and E1500 for the runners-up.
