MBABANE – Technical Director (TD) Boy ‘Bizzah’ Mkhonta has tipped police ensemble Royal Leopard as favourites to lift this year’s MTN League title.

Mkhonta, however, said the next league games will determine whether the tournament goes down to the wire or Leopard wrap it up sooner.
He also observed that the race was now between the current leaders, Leopard and defending champions Mbabane Swallows.

“Looking at the remaining games for both Royal Leopard and Mbabane Swallows, the Swallows remaining games are much tougher and could be more challenging for them. They (Swallows) still have to play a team like Midas City, which is desperate to survive. We have seen them play against City recently and it was a tough game. Swallows needed a replay to finally win, something which should be an indicator that there are no easy games left now, especially at this stage of the competition.

“They also have to play against Manzini Sundowns, who are probably eyeing a respectable finish. This game too, is likely to be very tough for Swallows. Malanti may not be fighting for anything but it will be pride at stake when they play against Swallows. They are likely not to surrender easily,” he said.

Mkhonta insisted though that Leopard’s next game, a tricky tie against Moneni Pirates, will go a long way towards determining the destiny of the trophy.

“From where I am sitting and considering on current log standings, I would say Leopard have an advantage over the rest of the teams. They basically need to win their next game against Moneni Pirates and they would be home and dry because they would need a draw against Umbelebele and Manzini Wanderers in their last matches.

“Umbelebele could be tricky for them because they are fighting against relegation. However, Leopard can still overcome them and wrap it up even before the last day of the competition,” he said.
