MBABANE – Police ensemble Royal Leopard and their PRO Frank Hurube, have been fined a whopping E50 000 by the Disciplinary Committee (DC).

The SwaziBank Cup finalists will, however, only pay E32 000 thanks largely to the leniency of the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) DC, which suspended about half the amount.
The parties were charged separately.

Hurube, the team’s PRO, had been charged with contravening article 14 (3) of the MTN Premier League Rules and Regulation in that on February 26, he published and or made a public statement to the effect that Royal Leopard was scheduled to play Mbabane Swallows at the Mavuso Sports Centre notwithstanding that the official fixture had been released by the PLS and scheduled the match at Somhlolo National Stadium.

According to the charge sheet, Hurube was deemed to have brought the name of football into disrepute. For his offence, he was slapped with a fine of E10 000. He will, however, fork out E7 000 as a sum of E3 000 was suspended for the rest of the season on condition the official is not found guilty of a similar offence.

Leopard, on the other hand was also slapped with a fine of E10 000 for their part in the offence. However, they too will pay E7 000 after E3 000 was slashed by the DC. The team was then slapped with a crippling E25 000 fine after being found guilty of failing to control the said official, something frowned upon by Article 7 (1) g of the tournament’s rules and regulations. Half of the amount was also suspended for the remainder of the season.

On a different matter, Leopard were summarily fined E5 000 after their supporters invaded the field of play to celebrate their SwaziBank Cup semi-final victory over defending champions, Mbabane Swallows last Sunday.

Hurube, when reached for a comment on what still stands out to be the team’s biggest fine in recent times despite the DC’s leniency, said they were still going to meet as a team to map a way forward.

“I have just received correspondence from the PLS office. There is little I can say because I was a suspect but I have now been found guilty. I will seek direction from the team’s authorities and then we will take it from there,” Hurube said.
