MBABANE – Young Buffaloes may have released their goalkeeper Nhlanhla Gwebu for national team duty with Sihlangu but he remains suspended.

The player was suspended last month by the army side after the Castle Premier Challenge Cup semi-final defeat to Mbabane Swallows. This followed a few days after the team parted ways with then head coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati and assistant Dominic Kunene.

The player was transferred from St George’s Barracks to Ngwavuma Barracks in Lavumisa to serve his suspension. The Sihlangu goalkeeper was allegedly suspended for his below par performance against Swallows during the semi- final.

Buffaloes PRO Sandile Gwebu explained that the player’s issue was not related to the team as it was within the Umbutfo Swaziland Defence Force where he is employed as a soldier. He said as a team they did not have a say in such issues. “It is true that he has not been ordered back in the team pending the finalisation of the matter. He just has to finish his issues with the army,” he said.

Gwebu explained that the player was released to Sihlangu by his employers after the FA had requested for his release. He said in his absence reserve goalkeeper Nhlanhla ‘Magatuka’ Dlamini would be keeping the fires burning and player turned goalkeeper Phiwa Dlamini as his reserve.
