Welcome to ’downs ‘Pupu’

The past week saw the acquisition of Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze from Manzini Wanderers. Welcome to Manzini ‘Pupu’! He is undoubtedly the most popular footballer in Swaziland and beyond reasonable doubt the best midfielder of this generation.

His touches bring back fond memories of one football king, Matthews ‘Chaka Chaka’ Mandlazi, who by coincidence was acquired from the same team. I can feel it in my bones that the glory days of the Basop ensemble are back. We are challenging for honours this season and Pupu will be the catalyst of our aspirations. Pupu, this is your opportunity to show the world of what you are made of. Sundowns has provided you the stage to shine and prove your critics wrong. Associating you with the likes of ‘Chaka Chaka’ shows the esteemed value that we think of you.

On the same breath, we also welcome Sandumuzi Zwane. Sandu-muzi is an unknown towering left winger from the Mafutseni zonal league. He is currently at Mhubhe High School. Gentlemen, we hope that you will enjoy your stay at Sundowns and contribute to the rich history of this club. More than anything, we want your names to be up there in the wall of fame for Sundowns and we want to talk about you for many years in the future. You both have the skills to do so and the advantage of age.

FAREWELL SIZWE KHUMALO

Sizwe Khumalo has been cleared to Royal Leopard and made his debut in the Charity Cup. The Sundowns factor proved to be the right tonic for the police ensemble, with Leonard Bongso scoring a goal and Sizwe doing very well in the superb performance by Leopard. We cleared Sizwe with a good heart and in good spirit and wish him well. We also cherish the good relationship we have with Royal Leopard. Sundowns take this opportunity to congratulate ‘Ingwe Lemabalaba’ on their Charity triumph.

Bravo Hurube and Sifiso for flying the Charity flag higher. We will bounce back to defend our Cup in the next season. Sizwe deserves this space for the commitment he has put to Sundowns over the years. Sundowns will always be your home Sir!
RICHARDS
BAY QUEST

We visited Richards Bay yesterday for a date with Thanda Royal Zulu, at Richards Bay Sports Complex. This was part of our preparations for the new season. We have had a series of international practice games as part of our preseason preparations. We were part of the Uthukela Municipality Charity Cup, played against a Piet Retief pick team, played Sivutsa Football Club and now Thanda Royal Zulu. Our coach, Milton Dlamini has put it rightly by saying ‘these games are to test our resilience against stronger opposition’. It is not about results. We pay tribute to our Chairman, Mr Mark Carmichael for making this real. We also salute the travelling fans who have been everywhere where the team goes. This marks a new era at Sundowns, an epoch where every Downs supporter will watch a live performance of the team, come the new season.

CASTLE PREMIERSHIP CHALLENGE

Swaziland Beverages (SB) is back to Swazi soccer and is back with a bang. The recent roadshow in Manzini has proven that where swarms of people came together with a Castle. This is a E500 000 winner takes all Top Eight tournament courtesy of SB. We are guests to Green Mamba in the quarter finals of this tournament and as Sundowns we can only promise our best.

The next roadshow is at Nhlangano, and Sundowns is sending an alert to the population of Nhlangano that Castle shall be hitting the streets on the 14th of September, the eve of the first quarter finals. Thank you SB for renewing your vows with the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS).
