MANZINI – Nedbank Eswatini has generously sponsored the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) with E100 000.

This sponsorship will support the hosting of two pivotal home fixtures for the national football team, Sihlangu, in their AFCON and CHAN qualifiers. Sihlangu will face Zimbabwe, this Saturday, at Mbombela Stadium in the TotalEnergies Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers second leg, with kick off scheduled for 6pm. The team’s second home match within 13 days will take place at the same venue against Guinea Bissau for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, set to kick off at 7pm on November 15.

Announcement

The sponsorship announcement was made by Nedbank’s Head of Marketing, Mcebo Shabangu, at Mavuso Sports Centre, prior to Sihlangu’s training session, yesterday. “As a purpose-driven bank, we take pride in our role as a key stakeholder in the country’s football landscape. Sports constitute a major pillar of Nedbank’s corporate social responsibility initiatives. This commitment to investing in football, as demonstrated in previous years, underscores our dedication,” stated Shabangu. He further noted that Nedbank has previously backed the COSAFA Under-20 Men’s Championship, which Eswatini hosted in 2022, and has also supported football teams competing in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

“The sport has evolved into a thriving industry. The transformative power of football can significantly advance the socio-economic development of our nation, providing a crucial platform for our national team players to showcase their talents and artistic prowess. This reaffirms the importance of national team football.”Shabangu expressed that the bank views its involvement with the football community as a commendable cause that aligns with its mission to leverage financial expertise for the benefit of individuals, families, businesses and society as a whole.

Rationale

“This rationale has led Nedbank to provide vital assistance to the EFA in facilitating the remaining home fixtures for our senior men’s national team.” Meanwhile, EFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu articulated his pride on the ongoing partnership with Nedbank, emphasising the importance of collaboration in administering the sport. “ Sihlangu Coach Zdravko Logarusic asserted that the goal is to secure victory in this home encounter. “What has happened is in the past. We are determined not to concede and aim to win both legs, having triumphed in the first leg with a decisive 3-0.” He confirmed that there would be no changes to the squad, preferring to travel with 21 players.
Captain Sifiso Matse also extended his gratitude to his teammates and the technical staff for their recent away victory.
