MBABANE – Philani ‘Zongo’ Maziya is reportedly linked with newly-promoted side Sidwashini United.

This was revealed by the player, who expressed his desire to play in the Premier League again. Sidwashini United, coached by Mandla ‘Stofu’ Dlamini, could possibly use Maziya’s services as a wing back for the upcoming season. “I have been with the club for about three weeks now. I was able to impress during a friendly game we played against a team from KwaZulu-Natal (KZN),” said Maziya. Philani also highlighted that he was certain with the quality he will add to the team, sharing that he was confident of getting game time.
“So far I am happy with the style of play. The philosophy is a passing game, which makes me feel at home,” expressed the wing back.

‘Zongo’ also mentioned that he will assist the team with the creation of goal scoring opportunities by providing pin point crosses as a left wing back. Meanwhile, Maziya also played for the now defunct Vovovo before he went on to join relegated side, Denver Sundowns. The skilful wing back also had a stint with Mbabane Swallows’ development under the guidance of Lwazi Simelane. He was part of the squad that won the 2017 and 2018 Charity Cup. It is worth mentioning that the creative wing back had a few issues regarding his playing documents a few seasons back, where he was departing from the then Milton ‘Spanish’ Dlamini-coached side. This forced him out of the game he loves for about a season as he was still sorting out his documents and anticipating his return to top flight football.

Joins

The wing back joins Sidwashini United from a South African (SA) side styled Soweto Super United. The latter campaign in the ABC Motsepe Division, which is that country’s football third-tier. On the other hand, Sidwashini United’s Director, Melizwe Mamba mentioned that he was not yet aware of the signing, however, he would find out from the team’s technical team regarding the signing of Maziya. Sidwashini United’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nontobeko Mbuyane also highlighted that she was yet to learn about the interest.  “I think if there is anything at this point, the technical team is still in talks with the player. At the end of the day, all formalised contracts should be on my desk, which I don’t have yet,” said Mbuyane.
