MBABANE – The King’s Advisory Council says it is unable to offer advice in the Bheki Makhubu-Russell Dlamini debacle.

Paul Dlamini, the Chairman of Liqoqo, said the advisory council does not handle issues without the mandate from the country’s authorities. Dlamini, the former Deputy Prime Minister, said protocol dictated that they should, therefore, not give comment on this particular issue. Liqoqo, in terms of the Constitution, recommends the appointment of the prime minister to the King.
The chairman had been asked if the council relayed messages of comfort to the officer it recommended to the King for appointment.

Customarily, issues are first reported to the Ingwenyama for deliberations. The King then refers the issues to his advisory council. The Executive Director of the Coordinating Assembly of Non-Governmental Organisation (CANGO), Thembinkosi Dlamini, said there was a need to formulate frameworks on how the editors’ breakfast meeting with the prime minister should be conducted. In the absence of the framework, he said it was difficult to blame either party for the chaos that erupted on Friday at Mountain View Hotel.

Framework

He said the framework might reflect that government should be transparent and strive to respond to all questions. He said it may also indicate how the media would forward questions or ask questions. “If there was a framework, perhaps, we would be saying Makhubu was wrong or the prime minister shouldn’t have said this and that,” Dlamini said.He mentioned  that as much as respect is what the country values, it was not neat for the prime minister to state in public that government reserved the right to respond or not respond to certain questions.
