DOMINIC BLAMES IT ON POOR START
MBABANE – Sihlangu head gaffer Dominic Kunene feels their bad start resulted in the defeat yesterday.
Kunene said this during a post-match interview after suffering a 1-2 defeat against Mauritius at Cote D’or National Sports Complex. “Our opponents capitalised on the bad start,” he said. The gaffer also lauded his charges for a remarkable performance displayed in the second half. “We created a lot of scoring opportunities. Their goalkeeper did well by making a lot of saves, otherwise the second half was superb,” Kunene said.
The defeat marked the national side’s fourth straight loss since starting their 2026 Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) World Cup Qualifiers in November last year. The lone goal by substitute Junior ‘Shisa Gesi’ Magagula broke the goal drought for Eswatini. Eswatini remained rock bottom of Group D with a goal difference of -5. Kunene’s troops now await Cameroon who were leading the pack in their next fixture at the time of compiling this report. They are set to compete in the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup next month.
