MBABANE – Financial struggles should soon be a thing of the past for boxing in countries that have had fiscal challenges to develop and grow in the sport.

This follows the appointment of the Foundation for a Better Boxing (FBB) Council by the International Boxing Association (IBA) during the world boxing governing body’s Board of Directors meeting held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on May 13, this year. The FBB has since been announced along with its benefits for boxing federations in the world including Eswatini and the rest of Africa. For the country and Africa as a whole, the advantage is that IBA once again showed faith in the only Board’s female administrator in Eswatini Boxing Association (EBA) President Pearl Dlamini. She is one of five appointed members of the council and because of that, she is confident of soliciting funding for the country’s boxing and the rest of Africa, while also ensuring boxing in the world is growing to new heights.

To her advantage, the latest appointment also means she can now get funding for Women Boxing projects as she is also the chairperson of the Diversity Committee, which speaks to the women boxing initiatives. The FBB Council is headed by IBA President Umar Kremlev as a member, President/joint signatory of two, has as its objective the task to help develop boxing worldwide, including the National Federations, that have difficulties with finances.

“It’s our tool aimed for boxing development (sic),” Kremlev said. Meanwhile, Dlamini’s reaction to the news was pure excitement first on her appointment in the FBB Council as a member. “I am humbled as I believe Eswatini and Africa will benefit from the foundation as I will fight that we are major beneficiaries from the foundation.  As the only women in the council, it’s exciting to be appointed as I also am the chairperson of the Diversity Committee so I believe our Women Boxing initiatives will be funded now,” she said. Moreover, Dlamini said as she sits in the council, she was looking forward to seeing vast change in the sport in the country for the association and women in the sport while also keeping Africa growing in the sport. The FBB council is listed in full as well.
