MBABANE – The Pigg’s Peak town will today welcome 20 social teams to battle out in the Hhohho Region Social Football tournament.

It was the Lubombo Region which hosted such a tournament and from the proceedings of the games, the social teams bought school shoes, which were donated to needy pupils around that region. Eswatini Social Teams Chief Organiser Nathi Dlamini said they had partnered with Instacash and the Pigg’s Peak Town Board to host the games to be played at sports grounds around the town.

“We are heading north this weekend as over 20 social teams from around the country will be playing in a point system and those to be number one and two respectively from their group will qualify for the next round,” Dlamini said. He also revealed that the Hhohho Region teams, as part of giving back to the community had identified Baleni Primary School under the Mayiwane Inkhundla as beneficiaries. “The teams bought school jerseys for the pupils of Baleni Primary School to qualify to play in the tournament,” he said. Dlamini thanked Instacash for donating E10 000 as prize money to be given to the teams at the end of the tournament, which is anticipated to be on June 3, 2023. He said the teams who would be awarded were those from the quarter-finals.

“It’s a good mileage for them a well, I am happy that they see business value in the social football space. They have a very intelligent Managing Director (MD) in Mandla ‘Cheeks’ Nxumalo, as social teams we are very grateful,” he said. He further invited vendors and tour guides to grace the occasion in all the venues for free to sell their wares to the players and spectators.
