DUBAI BECKONS FOR JAPAN KARATE SHOTO ESWATINI STARS

MBABANE – If you get your kicks and punches right, they could land you in Dubai.

That is what is at stake for the country’s Japan Karate Shoto (JKS) Eswatini artists from juniors as young as five years to seniors. It all starts today for the locals who will join neighbours on May 25 in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa for a tournament scheduled to take place at Fourways Street, Portuguese Hall. It is the Fourways tournament that comes with the tickets to Dubai, a dream destination for many nowadays. “As JKS Eswatini, we’re having a tournament today from as early as 8:30am until 1pm at Malkerns Club. We will have both juniors and seniors with the age rank starting from five years and from these artists we’ll finalise our national team selection for the South Africa tournament later this month.

“According to the invite and flyer they sent us, the winners in the tournament will be flown to Dubai to partake in an international competition and we’re confident we’ll have representation in Dubai,” JKS Eswatini President Wandile Masina said. He said the local tournament for the team selection was due to see each artist pay E120 for each category, being the Kata and fighting. Kata is the technical skills test, which has the artists display the different karate fighting styles as taught and trained under the JKS culture. Masina said all fighters from white belts to black were invited to the tournament, as they stood to fight in Dubai if selected to play at Fourways later this month.

Details of the potential Dubai trip will be shared in due course. Masina also appealed top parents and guardians to support the sport and their children throughout, by also coming to watch them today. He said anyone interested in buying their karate T-shirts was welcome as they would be selling at E150 each, with the money used to keep the fires burning in the association.
