MBABANE – Alpha Eswatini (Alphsz) has donated E59 000 towards the upcoming Border2Border Cycle Tour.

This was revealed by Alphsz Head of Asset Management Mpumelelo Ngcamphalala yesterday during the launch of the third edition of the Border2Border Cycle Tour. The event was held at Intfutfuko Building at the offices of the company that was formerly known as Sanlam Eswatini. The 2023 AlphSZ Border2Border Cycle tour which is set for June 10, will offer four distance categories. Category 1 will be the 240km which is set to start at 5am at Ngwenya Border Gate and ending at Lavumisa Border Gate. Category 2 will be the 180km which commence at Manzini (Somhlolo Park) to Lavumisa Border. Category 3 will be the 130km which will begin at Sikhuphe (KMIII International Airport) to Lavumisa Border.

Category 4 is the 100km which will start at Lukhula to Lavumisa Border. Registration is open and will close on May 30, 2023. Registration can also be done online at www.ride268.com. Entry fee is E200. “Apparently I was told that if you are sponsoring an event, you are not supposed to partake; 240km is no big deal because I would certainly beat everyone. On a serious note, we have been here for 11 years, we have changed from Sanlam to Alphsz. We are very excited about this event, Border2Border. I think we are putting a substantial amount and hopefully it will go a long way in aiding the success of the event,” said Ngcamphalala. Meanwhile, representative of the organising committee, Siphesihle Pearl Nhlabatsi, thanked Alphsz for taking time out of their busy schedules to come and be a part of  the launch.

Endurance

“Border2Border cycle tour was initiated in 2020 as an endurance ride from Ngwenya Border Gate to Lavumisa Border Gate. What started out as just another daring Saturday morning adventure has grown to become what we are officially launching here today, a  third edition of a premier cycling event. The event has grown over the last few years, largely because of the consistent support from partners such as the Eswatini Tourism Authority and the Municipal Council of Manzini, who have been with us since 2021,” said Nhlabatsi. She also revealed that Sanlam Eswatini has also been a consistent friend over the years, and they were proud to have taken the next step in their relationship with the organisation. “Alphsz is now the title sponsor of our event, hence the name the AlphSZ Border2Border Cycle Tour. The partnership between ourselves and AlphSZ has enabled us to offer more for cyclists. For the first time this year, we will have a beautifully crafted finisher’s medal for all registered participants among other goodies,” she said.

She also highlighted that the AlphSZ Border2Border Cycle Tour was targeted at both the competitive and recreational cyclist looking to test their endurance and push their limits while exploring the Kingdom of Eswatini on two wheels. Other speakers were from Manzini and Mbabane Municipal Councils as well as the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council. The latter was represented by Zama Tsabedze.
