MBABANE – Green Mamba’ striker Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa is set to surrender the 2021/22 MTN Premier League Player of the Season gong he won last season.

The Correctional Services side striker, who scored 23 league goals last season, beat Royal Leopard playmaker Junior Magagula and goal-poacher Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze to Eswatini football’s biggest individual prize. This season, ‘Sikhali’ has not won  any of the player of the month awards, which rules the former Mbombela United player out of the race if he fails to win the last player of the month, which will be for the month of May.

According to the rules and regulations, a player to be considered for the player of the year award, should win at least one player of the month accolade. The first time ‘Sikhali’ won the award which carries a E15 000 cash prize was in  his first season in top flight football, which was  during the 2011/12 season. Meanwhile, Young Buffaloes Bongwa ‘Owa’ Matsebula was the first recipient of the player of the month, winning the gong for the month of October after helping Buffaloes stay in contention for the E100 000 first round leaders incentives, which the army side later won after finishing the first round on top. Other players that have won the award include, among others, Mbabane Swallows’ trio of Felix Badenhorst, Kingsley Kwayki and recently Kwakhe Tfwala and Green Mamba’s Njabulo Tfwala and fellow teammate in Mxolisi ‘Kudus’ Mkhonto, who were both instrumental in making sure that their side stayed in the hunt for the league title.
