MBABANE - There is a new sheriff in town.

Eswatini Cricket Association (ECA), through (ECA) Tournament Director Zenzy Zenzele, announced Yahya Jiwa of Indian origin, based in Limpopo as the new Eswatini senior national cricket team coach. Zenzele said the new coach’s first assignment would be at the end of the month, during the African Cricket Qualifiers that will be taking place in Benoni, South Africa, where Eswatini is in the same group with Malawi and Mauritius. “That will be the first assignment of the coach, where he will be leading the Eswatini team. The coach’s involvement with the country will be short but he will improve other coaches in the country because of the knowledge he has. We have an indigenous team and we want the coach to train the team and improve the players’ skill so that they can be able to compete against other countries. We have high expectations that the coach will improve the standard of the sport in the country because he comes with great qualifications,” he said.

Excited

Meanwhile, Yahya Jiwa, who has a South African citizenship, said he was excited to come and help improve cricket in the country. “The players must learn fast and show discipline. “Eswatini people must start playing cricket and African guys are good in the sport. This is my main point and I hope that we will be able to work together in developing cricket,” the coach said.
