MBABANE – If money were to play football, Cape Verde will beat Sihlangu hands down.

This is due to the fact that, Sihlangu’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opponents, Cape Verde, are worth over 200 times more than the Dominic Kunene-led charges, but then it’s football, it will be 11 against 11 and anything is possible in football regardless of the teams’ ratings or rankings. The Blue Sharks squad is worth E462 million while Sihlangu is worth about E2 million that is if Motsepe Foundation Championship side All Stars’ Justice Figuareido is part of the squad. Currently, he is not part of the squad, there is only one international and that is ZESCO United’s Lindo Mkhonta. The former Young Buffaloes right back is not yet rated under the transfer market.

The islanders’ squad recently named their 26-man squad, which has only two players plying their trade in Africa. That is Keven Ramos who plays for CS Mindelense in Cape Verde and Edilson Borges who plies his trade in Morocco for FAR Rabat. All the other 24 players play outside the country and some play in top leagues such as in Portugal. Jovane Cabral is one of the highest rated players with a value of E69 million and another top rated player in the squad to face Sihlangu is Jamiro Monteiro, who plays for San Jose Earthquakes in the United States of America. He is rated E79 million.

Worth noting is that Sihlangu is ranked 143 in the FIFA rankings while Cape Verde is ranked 72nd. The national team will face Cape Verde on March 24 at their National Stadium, which has a capacity of 15 000 fans. The home side will host the islanders on March 28 at Mbombela Stadium in South Africa as the country does not have a stadium to host category ‘A’ games.
