MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers Managing Committee (MC) Chairman Berger Nxumalo has cleared the air on the sacking of Coach Changara Terisayi.

The much-travelled mentor’s contract with the maroon and white hub giants, who have endured one of the hardest seasons in their history in local football, was terminated early in the week after they were humiliated by city rivals Denver Sundowns this past Sunday. Wanderers narrowly won the first round match 1-0, but Sundowns came a better side as they run riot on their city rivals whom they demolished Liweseli 5-0. This made Wanderers MC to terminate the coach’s contract.

Nxumalo, when reached for comment, revealed that the former Mbabane Citizens gaffer’s contract termination came after they sat down with him and reached a common agreement not just that he was fired for poor results. “We agreed that he stepped down amicable as we had too much pressure from all stakeholders of the club because of the results that were not forthcoming and for his safety, as most people were using him as a scapegoat. In short, we were protecting him,” Nxumalo explained.

He said it was wrong for people to use the coach as a scapegoat for the poor performance, as this issue was caused mainly by financial challenges faced by the club. He also revealed that Terisayi was so good to the faltering hub giants as he stood by them under the circumstances he worked under, as had it been another coach, he would have long left the club. “He stood by us when things were tough in the club,” he said.

Fired

Nxumalo further thanked the coach for the dedication he rendered to the club and he emphasised that Terisayi was not fired at Wanderers, but the move was agreed upon by the two parties for his safety.  He leaves the maroon and white hub giants sitting on position 11 after losing 12 of their 18 games so far this season and they next have a league assignment against fierce rivals, Mbabane Swallows in a titanic fixture billed for the Mavuso Sports Centre on Sunday.

The Zimbabwean mentor has coached a number of teams in the country including Mbabane Highlanders, Tambuti, Moneni Pirates, Denver Sundowns and Nsingizini Hotspurs,  to mention but a few. He was also once at helm at Mbabane Citizens. Co-Coach Mpendulo Mawelela will keep the fire burning in the meantime and his biggest test is the epic clash against the high-flying Mbabane Swallows.
