MBABANE – Home is where the heart is.

This can best describe former Manzini Wanderers’ gaffer Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe, who is set to rejoin the maroon and white ensemble, barely a season after he left. News coming from Wanderers suggested that they felt that the only person who could save the sinking ship was Hlophe. The maroon and white outfit currently prop up the table with one win in nine attempts.

approach

In different meetings held by the hub side’s management committee, it was decided that they should approach their former coach. The camps at the club believe Hlophe knows the players and the team’s culture, so it would be easy to turn the team’s fortunes around. The talks at Wanderers have been ignited by the team’s worsening situation. They have lost seven times and drawn once in the past nine outings. They only managed to win once against Tambuti. Reached for comment, the team’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Lucky ‘Majayivane’ Dlamini confirmed the interest. “Yes, it is true that we have been looking for coaches and his name came up in the discussion. We can only confirm when everything has been finalised,” said Dlamini.

comment

Hlophe said he could also give a proper comment once he had met with his current bosses. “I like to do things professionally. I am currently the coach here at Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows and the management and players have never mistreated me. So whatever comes on the table, I will have to touch base with them and it is then I can give a comment,” said Hlophe. When asked when he was supposed to meet with his bosses, he said he was hoping to meet with them yesterday, but due to the transport challenges, he could not do so. Worth noting is that Hlophe, who is the oldest coach, was hired at the beginning of last season, but just before the season could be over, he was fired. He then joined Black Swallows at the start of the season, where according to the log standings, he’s not doing well.

managed

He has only managed to win two games, drawn once and lost three times. His side is second from bottom in the National First Division League. It must be noted that Hlophe is a well-travelled coach, having coached the big two sides in Mbabane Swallows and Manzini Wanderers. He has also coached at national team level and the junior squads. Currently in charge at Wanderers is Terisayi Changara, who is expected to be relegated to assistant coach.
