MBABANE – Local football supporters are unhappy about the change of the date for the eagerly-awaited Mbabane derby.

This follows an amendment to the MTN Premier League fixtures. The new fixtures sees the anticipated biggest game in the land, pitting Mbabane Swallows against Mbabane Highlanders now taking place on Saturday, rather than the Sunday that was in the previous fixture. This titanic clash is where the form book is thrown out of the window; pride and prestige is at stake; players are made or destroyed. It has caused a social media outcry in various soccer groups.

Local football supporters, after seeing the amended fixture were quick to express their anger and rage at the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) office headed by Chief Executive Officer, Kenneth Makhanya. Many of the football supporters saw them agreeing for a change and that was in the manner that the fixture needed to be respected and not be pitted in the Mavuso Sports Centre double-header, but rather have the game played on Sunday and the match be a single-header. The new amended fixture now sees Manzini Wanderers taking on high flying Nsingizini Hotspurs in the first fixture and Mbabane Highlanders taking on arch rivals, Mbabane Swallows in the second fixture.
