MBABANE – Build It has spent E6.4 million to produce 22 stars in the country’s national teams in 16 years since their under-13 football development programme.

The hardware store is the main sponsor of the Under-13 Football Development Tournament for both boys and girls countrywide since 2006, producing 18 players who have gone on to represent the country at junior and senior levels.
Young Buffaloes left back Kwakhe Tfwala, who now plays for the national team Sihlangu and captains the national Under -23, is one of the products of this tournament, apart from the male players, this competition has also unearthed women footballers, who are currently playing for the national Under-20 squad.

Build It Eswatini Operations Manager Loekie van Niekerk, when addressing members of the media and the junior teams representatives during the official launch of the Mbabane branch edition, said the Build It Under-13 soccer initiative was one of the biggest junior development programmes in the country. “This programme has become a recognised brand among key players in the Eswatini soccer fraternity. It was launched in 2006 as a result of a successful partnership between Build It and Eswatini Football Association (EFA),” Van Niekerk said.

He said this tournament was presently played in other countries in the region including South Africa, Mozambique and Namibia. Van Niekerk said by investing in areas where they were operating their businesses was aimed at uplifting Southern African youngsters and giving them a chance to develop their talent in a sport which was considered to be the passion of the people.

“The EFA have, over the past few years, used the Build It under-13 festivals as a platform to identify their national Under-13 football squad. As a brand, we are honoured to be able to present this amazing opportunity to aspiring young football players from Eswatini,” he said. He also said it gave them pleasure as Build It Plus Mbabane to once again invest in the passion of the youth and soccer.

Achieved

“The success of any business organisation could not be achieved alone, but rather through the support of the local communities. We at Build It have over the years achieved great success while trading in an extremely competitive environment. This tournament is an ideal way to show gratitude to our communities which have chosen Build It as the preferred choice of hardware and building material retailer,” he said.

He further said as the country and the nation was recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, they were pleased to be one of the first brands to again invest in the youth football.“I would like to encourage the parents of these young players to support their children. Invest
