MBABANE – The ‘mother of all derbies’ in local football is scheduled for about a week before Christmas.

This is a match between the capital city’s sworn rivals Mbabane Highlanders and Mbabane Swallows, who bring the city as well as the country to a standstill. The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), through the office of Football Manager Pat Vilakati, released the fixtures for the rest of the first round, starting on Week eight-13 to be played across the country, except for the Somhlolo National Stadium.

The PLE Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kenneth Makhanya, in a meeting with sports journalists from all the country’s media houses at Sigwaca House yesterday, disclosed that the national stadium was closed due to damages allegedly by Highlanders’ bus on the synthetic track, during the MoMo Cup finals.

According to the fixtures, the Mbabane derby will be played on Week 10, which falls on December 18, 2022 and is billed for the Mavuso Sports Centre at 3pm. Inkunzi Emnyama is currently on second position in the 2022/23 MTN Premier League standings with 13 points in six games, while Umkhonto KaShaka are third and a point away from their rivals.
