E46 500 PER TEAM BEFORE KICKING BALL

MBABANE – Even before kicking a ball in the new MTN Premier League season, the 14 elite teams have to collectively pay a minimum of over E0.65 million into the PLE’s coffers.

Teams are expected back in action this weekend for the start of the 2022/23 MTN Premier League season.  According to Article 2 of the MTN Premier League Rules and Regulations, all clubs  shall affiliate to the  Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) by paying an annual affiliation fee of E5 000 per team. Such affiliation fee shall be paid to the PLE on or before the first registration of players by the club for the2022/2023 Season. A club is further required to pay an annual match officiating fee of E40 000. It is to be paid before they play their first game of the 2022/2023 season.

Among other costs, there is also an accreditation fee of E1 500, which is to be paid at least seven working days before their first game of the 2022/2023 season. “All affiliated PLE Clubs shall apply for and be granted a Licence by EFA   Eswatini Football Association) for the 2022/2023 Season. Only PLE Clubs affiliated with the PLE and granted a Licence by EFA for the 2022/2023 Season may register players,” read Article 2.1 and 2.2. Registration of players is done electronically and exclusively by EFA.  Eligible players to participate in the league are those registered with affiliated member clubs with a valid EFA Licence, including the payment of the registration fee of E100 per player. Each member club shall be allowed to register a maximum of 30 players inclusive of a maximum of five foreign players. In essence, it costs E3 000 for a team to register 30 players.Worth mentioning is that all teams are each entitled to E100 000 participation fee, which comes in handy in settling some of these costs, provided it is released in time.

BREAKDOWN OF COSTS:

All PLE clubs shall affiliate to the PLE by paying:

  • An annual affiliation fee of E5 000 per club.
  • An annual match officiating fee of E40 000 per Club.
  • An accreditation fee of E1 500.
