MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers have retained the services of striker Njabulo ‘Koko’ Gama, albeit on a short-term deal.

The former Tinyosi (now Ezulwini United) forward joined the maroon and white hub giants last season, when he signed a one-year contract, which expired in June this year. The player, who is fondly known as ‘Koko’ in local football circles, found the back of the net for Liweseli 11 times and created six penalties and the same number of assists. The speedy forward after his contract expired at Wanderers was invited by South Africa’s ABC Motsepe League side Mpumalanga Black Aces for trials, where he excelled. He returned in the country to play for the hub giants in the 2022 Bible Society Cup.

Injury

‘Koko’ unfortunately sustained an injury in the finals against Mbabane Highlanders and could not return to South Africa for further assessment by Amazinyoni. He revealed that he had reunited with Manzini Wanderers after signing a six-month contract with them and he was busy preparing himself for the clash against MTN Premier League rookies Madlenya on Sunday at Mayaluka Stadium. “I have signed with Manzini Wanderers but it’s a short-term contract for six months, as I want to go to South Africa,” Gama said. He disclosed that he was lucky enough that when he got injured in the Bible Society Cup, Mpumalanga Black Aces had sent their scout to watch him in a game situation. “Aces are waiting for me as they were the ones paying for my medical expenses during this injury,” he said.

Released

He further said the other reason the South African side were looking after his injury was due to the fact that they were the ones who released him for the Bible Cup, which was eventually won by Mbabane Highlanders after beating Liweseli 1-0 in the finals. Meanwhile, Wanderers Chairman Mlungisi ‘Mluka’ Ndzinisa confirmed that Koko was back and training with them. However, he clarified that the player signed a three-year contract with Wanderers when he joined from Tinyosi (Ezulwini United). He also said he was surprised by the news circulating that Gama’s contract expired, as according to his knowledge, the player signed a three-year deal. Ndzinisa further said if the player got an opportunity to play in South Africa, they would not stand on his way.
