MBABANE – National Under-17 head coach Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe has been given a huge task at his new side, Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows, ahead of the new season.

Hlophe has been tasked to steer the Pigg’s Peak-based National First Division side back to Premier League. Black Swallows were relegated to the country’s football second-tier in the 2020/2021 season. They finished third last season. The gaffer is also expected to produce quality players during his tenure in the team, following his official unveiling yesterday at the team.
The former Mbabane Citizens coach has joined Black Swallows on a one-year renewable contract, provided he is able to attain the goals set by the team. Hlophe replaced Mbongeni Dlamini, who steered the ship last season. The latter has now joined Illovo FC.

According to Black Swallows Brand and Marketing Officer Philile Dlamini, the veteran gaffer had been drilling the team for almost the past two weeks. “We have just chosen him because he is matured, he boasts experience and he has spent a long time in the coaching field. He is good on players development; he understands players, especially according to their age groups, “Dlamini said.

Decorated

Hlophe, who is the oldest coach in the country, has also coached Mbabane Swallows and Manzini Wanderers. He once won the league with the former. He is the most decorated coach in the MTN Premier League, as he boasts four titles. He was the first coach to win the MTN League title with Wanderers in the first ‘Y’ello’ season back in 2002/03. Efforts to get the coach’s comment were futile at the time of compiling this report.
