MBABANE – The National Team Under-23s are looking to pass the first hurdle of the 2023 TOTALEnergies Under-23 Qualifiers at the expense of Botswana today.

Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane’s charges are going into today’s game with their heads high after beating their counterparts 2-0 in the first leg, which was played at Somhlolo National Stadium last Friday. The ball is now in Eswatini’s court after making things much easier here at home. Keeping the backdoor shut further eased the pressure on the local side.

tactics

The national Under-23’s coach in Tambankulu Callies gaffer should use the same tactics that he applied during the first leg of searching for an early goal to frustrate Botswana in their own backyard. The Kwakhe Tfwala captained side, should they play a draw or win this encounter, will have to eliminate Egypt from their way to qualify for the continental showpiece for the first time in the local football history. The winner in the second round of the preliminary between Eswatini and Egypt will book a spot in the 2023 TOTALEnergies Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted in Morocco next year. This tournament also serves as a qualifier for a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This is one fixture the local side cannot afford to lose, to maintain the record they had set for themselves of breaking the jinx of not beating  Botswana at senior level for the past 21 years.
