SIMUNYE - For them it was more about preparing for the upcoming Mormond Stix Charity MTB race.

That is the assertion made by two 4Eva Cycling Club youngsters in Malik McNamara and Makepeace Bailey ahead of the Mormond Stix Charity Mountain Bike (MTB) Race, which is set to be staged at Manzini Club on October 8. The duo, despite coming first in the 70km ride, was not there to compete per se but prepare for the upcoming race. They finished the race holding hands and in high spirits. Interestingly, when the ride started, Kobus Smith was leading for the first 20km until the duo of McNamara and Bailey caught up with him. From there on they were ahead without opening any gap between themselves until they reached the finish line.

Malik said it was not about competing but preparing for the upcoming race. “The race was very nice, lovely trails, nice simple tracks, and well-marked. My objective coming here was about endurance training preparing for the Stix MTB race,” he said. Meanwhile, Bailey said the ride was enjoyable and he was looking forward to the next race. “The ride was easy. I enjoyed myself and the route was well marked. There were no hard climbs along the route. My objective was to train for the Stix race and I want to win it,” Bailey declared.
