MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows juniors are urgently in need of E70 000 for their international assignments early next month.

Mbabane Swallows junior teams have been invited to take part in the 2022 Durban Soccer Festival billed for next month. The festival will be hosted by the South African Football Association (SAFA) Durban Central Football Association (DCFA) from October 7-9 this year. Umkhonto KaShaka Development Officer Mduduzi ‘Mtjuku’ Masilela revealed that they were invited through the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) for the two-day soccer festival. He said EFA chose the Swallows development sides to partake in the event after their successful run in the domestic league and they felt they would represent the country well in the annual event, which attracts different countries and regions. Masilela said the challenge they were currently facing was the issue of finances to cater for the juniors travelling expenses, which he thought was in the region of E70 000.

He said the money would be used to cater for the three travelling squads. These are the Under-13s, Under-15s and Under-19s as well as their coaches. “We are pleased that EFA considered us to represent the country in this event. This shows that we are taking good strides towards the development of the sport in the country, but now we are faced with a huge challenge of raising the funds,” Masilela said. He further said that donations would be greatly accepted from the corporate industry as well as the general public for the juniors to travel to Durban. He said those interested should contact the team’s development office on 7910 1261.
