MBABANE – The battle of the Shongwes for the chairmanship of the Hhohho Regional Football Association (HRFA) has been officially confirmed.

The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Ethics Committee through its Chairperson Magistrate Siphosini Dlamini released the list of the candidates eligible to stand for positions in the HRFA executive committee. This was during the EFA’s Ethics Committee Press Conference, which was held at Sigwaca House Conference Hall in Mbabane yesterday. Dlamini said as per Article 64 of EFA Statutes, read together with the EFA Electoral Code of 2021, which states that among other things, their duty was to supervise and ensure the smooth running of the electoral process. This is in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Statutes of the HRFA and the electoral code.

The chairperson revealed that the duo of current Chairman Nigel Shongwe would square up with former HRFA Chairman and erstwhile EFA Vice President Comfort Shongwe during the association’s elective Annual General Meeting, billed for next Sunday (September 25) at Mhlatane High School Hall in Pigg’s Peak.Magistrate Dlamini said the nominees had passed the eligibility process or criteria for the respective positions nominated for as per the relevant HRFA Statutes.

Criteria

“It is worth mentioning that some nominees passed the prerequisite criteria, while unfortunately other nominees were not successful due to reasons ranging from; either failure to submit all or some of the necessary accompanying documentation, while others submitted the wrong documentation,” Dlamini said. He also said those who had been disqualified could still have recourse to appeal the decision of the committee to the Appeals Committee within three days as per Article 9 of the Electoral Code.

Among those no longer appearing in the final list is former EFA Executive Member Thulani ‘Little  Known’ Mavuso, who was vying for secretarial post. As a result, incumbent secretary Nkosingiphile Shongwe is now nominated unopposed. In the revised list, the race for the vice secretary position has also been cut from six to two.  The survivors are Ntokozo Tsela and Thami Dlamini. He further notified the nominees that there shall be no campaigns. Any form of campaigning was strictly prohibited.
