MBABANE – Eswatini men’s national cricket team will on Saturday begin their training for the 2023 International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup Africa  qualifiers.

The sub-regional qualifiers will be played in Rwanda from November 15 to 23 this year. Top finishers in the four groups will clash in play-offs to produce two African representatives for the 2023 World Cup that will be hosted by India late next year. Eswatini is in Group A, which has six nation. Eswatini Cricket Association (ECA) said the training would begin with a preliminary squad of 24 players which will be later trimmed to 14 players.

ECA Operations Officer Mandla Dlamini said he was trusting the coaches’ commission in selecting best players who will help the country perform better than their previous qualifiers. This coaches’ commission is also expected to select the national team head coach shortly. Dlamini further noted that Eswatini was in a fairly balanced group, with Kenya, Gambia and Malawi being the strongest while the others were posing less threat.
