MBABANE – Six swimmers’ training programme has been intensified.

This has been made possible by the Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA). The swimmers are currently attached to the High Performance Centre (HPC) in Pretoria, South Africa, where they are undergoing an intense training programme. The male swimmers are Simanga Dlamini, Damien de Souza and Cameron Jele. The female athletes are Hayley Hoy, Raya Young and Siwakhile Dlamini. ESA President Herman Jele confirmed yesterday that as an executive they selected a team of six athletes to attend the week-long training camp at the HPC in Tshwane. He said the team was made up of both males and females.

Swimming has been one of the sporting codes that showed a capability of representing the country well in international competitions. They were part of the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games where the duo of Simanga Dlamini and Hayley Hoy competed. “In line with our strategy to develop our coaches, we also paid for three coaches to attend training and shadowing the more experienced coaches (counterparts) at the HPC. The coaches who were selected are Welcome Nhlabatsi, Meluleki Simelane and Mark Hoare. However, due to family commitments Welcome was unable to attend the training camp,” said Jele. The camp started yesterday and it will end tomorrow with the participants expected back home on Friday.
