MBABANE – Another Mbabane Highlanders star player has joined Green Mamba.

The reports linking out of contract midfielder Xolani ‘Papi’ Sikhondze with the Correctional Services side are turning out to be true, as an impeccable source has said he was training with the team that recently assigned his captain last season, Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa. “He started training with us on Monday but the technical bench will decide his fate,” the source said.
Papi disappeared from the Highlanders training last week despite the club having allegedly made him a new offer. He also did not take part in their friendly match with the National Under-20s in Mhlambanyatsi last Friday afternoon.

He had claimed to be out with an injury otherwise would return to Highlanders training. However, he did not report back. Efforts to reach him again yesterday were in vain as he did not answer his cellphone and also didn’t respond to texts sent to him. Sikhondze, who was not part of the ‘Bull’ squad that played a friend match with the National Under-20s last Sunday had earlier said he would return to the ‘Bull’ kraal probably last week after recovering from a mild flu and injury.

Training

It is notable that the player had not returned to Highlanders training so far. Green Mamba’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mandla Sibiya also could not be available for comment when sought. While his Highlanders counterpart, Mandla Madonsela mentioned that the player has been away from the teams’ activities for some time now. ‘Papi’s  move  to Green Mamba, if it is finalised will see a reunion of him with his former coach Ernest Mavuso and former teammates at Highlanders and Mbabane Swallows ‘Sikhali’ and Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu who have joined the correctional side recently.
