MBABANE – It will be celebrations all the way during the third edition of the Eswatini 5km walk/run billed for Saturday in Manzini.

Golden Football Club (GFC), which had 35 runners in South Africa’s biggest ultra-marathon, will be celebrating conquering in the Comrades Marathon during the event. GFC are also the organisers of the 5km walk/run that is raising funds to assist domestic abuse survivors. GFC President Tokky Hou said they wanted to encourage people to also join clubs and run for fun, health and socialising. She said the team that competed in the Comrades Marathon on Sunday would be present to showcase their triumph and also be part of the good initiative. “We are proud as a team that went to the Comrades Marathon and we all conquered and we came back home safe. Conquering the Comrades Marathon is not about finishing at the top, but it’s about ending the course and our members achieved that,” she said.

Ladies

Hou said they were happy that their team featured 25 ladies with the rest being males. Other local athletics clubs that travelled to be part of the ultra-marathon included Zithande Athletics Club and Ngculwini Athletics Club, among others. “We will be wearing our regalia from the Comrades Marathon and we are not going to leave our medals behind as we want other runners to see what we have achieved and encourage them to join us,” she added.
