MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers striker Njabulo ‘Koko’ Gama is currently trying his luck with South Africa’s Mpumalanga Black Aces.

The player who is reportedly on the wish list of Mbabane Swallows left the country on Friday for the trials with the Motsepe Foundation Championship side. The speedy forward joined the maroon and white Manzini giants on November last year, where he signed a one-year contract from relegated Lobamba-based outfit Tinyosi. The player, who is widely known as Koko, found the back of the net for the maroon and white outfit 11 times and created six penalties as well as a number of assists.

Gama confirmed that he was in South Africa with Mpumalanga Black Aces after he was invited by their chairman Graig Rosslee to be assessed.
“I once came here around 2016 just after finishing my high school while playing for Tinyosi in the Super League, but I could not sign. I have been given another chance with the hope of winning a contract here,” Gama said. The former Tinyosi striker said he was well received at Mpumalanga Black Aces and was impressed with the standard of professionalism exhibited by the team. “The way they do things here is different from back home; they have top class facilities and I will gain a lot of experience here. I really enjoy myself here,” he said. He, was, however, quick to reveal that he was still contracted to Manzini Wanderers. His contract is set to expire on November this year. Meanwhile, Manzini Wanderers Chairman Mlungisi ‘Mluka’ Ndzinisa said they were aware that the player was in South Africa for assessment by Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Blessings

“We gave him our blessings and he will be there for two weeks. However, he will be available for our game in the Bible Cup and we are expecting him to train with us on Friday,” Ndzinisa said. He said after the tournament the player was expected to return to South Africa for further assessment, as it was their policy to not stand on players’ way. Koko also said he would appear for the hub giants in the 2022 Bible Society Cup, billed for the Mavuso Sports Centre on Saturday. Manzini Wanderers have been pitted against sworn rivals Moneni Pirates as they will begin the defence of their title for the tournament they have won three times since its inception in 2017.
