MBABANE – Young Buffaloes Ladies team were drawn in a tricky pool in the Hollywoodbets COSAFA Women’s Champions League.

They will face Green Buffaloes of Zambia and Olympique De Moroni of Comoros in Group B of the tournament that also act as the TOTALEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal qualifiers. Buffaloes will be debuting in the international tournament as only Manzini Wanderers ladies had competed before. Buffaloes qualify by being virtue of being the Eswatini Women’s Football League champions in the country in the recently-ended 2021/ 22 season. The draw was held yesterday. The tournament will be played from August 7 to 13 in Durban, South Africa. Champions, South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns were drawn against Costa Do Sol of Mozambique and last season’s semifinalists Double Action Ladies from Botswana in Group A.

Advance

The winner of each pool will advance to the final, with the second-placed teams to play in a bronze-medal match, meaning there is little room for failure. According to cosafa.com, both groups look likely they will be hotly-contested. While Sundowns may seem favourites in theirs, they will be wary of the quality of their opponents. Green Buffaloes who will play Young Buffaloes were also semifinalists last year and are a side to be watched closely.“The zonal qualifier will see the winner advance to the 2022 TOTALEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League finals that are to be held in Morocco later in the year, where Sundowns hope to defend the zonal title with hope to qualify and go and defend their continental title as well,” reads the COSAFA correspondence in part. Costa Do Sol, Young Buffaloes and Olympique de Moroni are all debutants in the COSAFA competition, but the rest return after the inaugural year in 2021 and will be wiser for that experience.
