MBABANE – It is a busy preseason already for capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders who expect to spend the weekend in South Africa for yet another international friendly.

Their rivals this time are Soweto Giants, Orlando Pirates. Highlanders only returned home on yesterday evening after a camp in Pretoria, South Africa, whereby they also played Mamelodi Sundowns and lost by 5-0 scorelines in first and second sessions of the practice matches, respectively. “We are back home. We had a fruitful camp in in Pretoria and we are going back again tomorrow or Saturday for another practice match against Orlando Pirates,” the team’s spokesperson Mandla Madonsela said yesterday.

He said they were looking forward to playing Pirates but said the venue had not yet been confirmed at the time this report was compiled but hinted it was likely to be Royal Marang Stadium. Madonsela said the team was well and only missed the four stars away with the senior national team Sihlangu. The four who are away in Botswana for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) Qualifiers 2022 first leg on Saturday are Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa, Peter Dlamini, Khanyakwezwe Shabalala and Philani Mkhontfo. The second leg will be played in South Africa next Sunday.

Gratitude

Madonsela expressed their gratitude as a team to their Managing Director Chief Ally Kgomongwe for ensuring they had the best preseason ahead of another gruelling season after finishing as runners-up to champions Royal Leopard who will play in the TOTALEnergies CAF Champions League 2022/23 for the second consecutive time. Highlanders will represent the country in the TOTALEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
