MBABANE – Giants Manzini Wanderers have moved swiftly to replace the duo of Head Coach Velekhaya Mthethwa and his assistant Terisayi Changara.

Wanderers officially announced a decision to part ways with Changara and Mthethwa on Monday. The equally seasoned duo of Mduduzi ‘Nyama’ Shongwe and Mduduzi ‘Sikhalo’ Nxumalo have since stepped into the departed duo’s shoes as interim co-coaches. Despite a high interest from internationals who include renowned Zimbawean Darling Dodo, Wanderers General Manager and Head of Public Affairs Mlungisi ‘Mluga’ Ndzinisa announced  a move to opt for the locals. “These coaches have worked with a lot of teams and have a traceable record. They are also good with youngsters. We believe they have what it takes to deliver for the team. “Maybe we can consider internationals in future but opting for locals with a proven record is not a bad idea at this moment,” said Ndzinisa.

Deserve

Both Nxumalo and Shongwe deserve no introduction having worked with several teams. The latter was at Tambankulu Callies early this year.
He also had stints with Tambuti and Denver Sundowns in the past. Shongwe, on the other hand, once coached Malanti Chiefs and the senior national women’s team, Sitsebe. They are expected to lead the side in next week’s four-team Bible Society Cup, which also features Mbabane Highlanders, Moneni Pirates and Denver Sundowns. Efforts to source immediate comments from the two coaches were fruitless at the time of compiling this report.
Meanwhile, Ndzinisa said the attendance at their first pre-season training yesterday was impressive, after having at least 16 players.
He said recruits were expected to join the team in training from today.
