SEASON BEST FOR ‘SWAZI BOLT’

MBABANE – Sprinter Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa clocked a season best in the World Athletics Championships yesterday morning.

Matsenjwa, who was competing in the 200 metres, finished sixth with a time of 20:60 seconds. He was 40 mini-seconds short of reaching the semifinals. Winning the heat was Erriyon Knighton from the United States of America (USA) who finished on 20:01 seconds. Others who qualified are Luxolo Adama from South Africa who was second on 20:10 seconds; Great Britain’s Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake on 20:11; and Dom Yancarlos Martinez on 20:13.

“I came sixth in my heat. I’m happy that I ran a season best. I was just unlucky to be in a tough heat but happy with the performance,” he said.
A season best is the best mark achieved by an athlete on a personal level within a given season. The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) Athletics Club athlete’s personal best is 20:22 seconds. He targets at least the 19 seconds mark. Matsenjwa who is also part of the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games will be heading to the United Kingdom on Friday. He will meet the other local athletes who are leaving the country  for Birmingham on Sunday.
