That is Eswatini 2022/23 TOTALEnergies CAF Confederation Cup envoys Mbabane Highlanders who have secured an international friendly match against South Africa’s heavyweights Orlando Pirates. The 2021/22 MTN Premier League runners-up are currently in South Africa playing a series of practice matches against teams from the other side of the border. The Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala-led outfit were humiliated with a 10-0 aggregate score by DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns two days ago in games played at Royal Marang Stadium. They played one match against Platinum City Rovers, who are campaigning in the Motsepe Foundation championship (formerly GladAfrica Championship) yesterday. The game ended in a goalless draw.

Practice

The team have also lined up practice matches with Supersports United and Marumo Gallants. Inkunzi emnyama Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mandla Madonsela said they got good practice playing against a big team like Mamelodi Sundowns as they were trying new combinations ahead of their busy season. “We are going to play against Orlando Pirates next week in Johannesburg as they were interested to playing against us. We have decided that we will come back next week to honour the match,” Madonsela said. He also said they were expected back home by today or tomorrow and they would then return to South Africa next weekend for the game against the ‘Sea Robbers’ of Soweto. The black and white capital giants will begin their 2022/23 season by playing in the Bible Cup billed for the Mavuso Sports Centre next Saturday (July 30).
